Reply with quote | #1 | Has anyone's studio ever handed out a survey to their dance parents inquiring about satisfaction? I'm thinking of a tool for the studio to use to know what's working overall and to improve the things that many people complain about. It would be a way for parents to make suggestions on all kinds of things, from recital concerns to costumes to types of classes offered.
Now, I know it sounds like a hassle and maybe would be opening a can of worms best left alone, but the benefits might be worth it for some studios.
We take these at my work (part time job) and they can be very informative. Thoughts?? |

Reply with quote | #2 | Yes, you can use an anonymous on-line survey system. I think they are helpful, but parents should know up front that all suggestions and comments will be appreciated, however not every one will be implemented.
It's also a good way to find out just exactly how people feel. For example, you may THINK that everyone actually likes traveling to nationals and discover that most people would rather not go - but of course no one had the courage to bring that to the SO's attention. Or you may get some good ideas on a better system for drop off/pick-up of dancers - stuff like that.
Google on-line survey services. __________________ The difference between try and triumph is a little umph! |

Reply with quote | #3 | We got one last year at the studio we were at for jazz. I wrote some comments, turned it in anonymously. Nothing TOO over the top, but some things that bothered me and others that I loved. I am PRETTY sure they knew it was mine, because the tone changed, but whatever! I'm not one to hold back when I have an opinion __________________ momtodancinggirl |

Reply with quote | #4 | I think you can set one up via survey monkey that is just multiple choice or a rating type thing and not comments to be written in. Don't know, but might be more objective and it's easier to add up apples and apples than to look at subjective comments. __________________ Darlene |

Reply with quote | #6 | That survey monkey is a great idea! I did a survey there for a work conference and it was great.
We do surveys at the end of the dance year and I find it a good opportunity to give feedback good and bad. Most businesses survey their customers don't they? |

Reply with quote | #8 | I asked the question because I work as a receptionist at the studio and sometimes hear things that the SO might want to know, but it wouldn't really be appropriate coming from me. Plus sometimes it might appear as criticism, which it isn't, but I don't want to overstep my role by commenting on stuff that really isn't any of my business.
Although I do have some suggestions . . .
I'll have to check out that survey monkey idea and work it into the conversation one of these days. |

Reply with quote | #9 | I think this could be a great tool, but sometimes anonymous surveys can become very nasty and hurtful. (we received one at work last week and it has become downright nasty!!! Can't wait to see the results from this "casual survey" as they called it.) |

Reply with quote | #10 | The studio I worked at in Apex used one a year or so ago. The SO was shocked at the replies she got. She was so busy with the studio business and teaching that she didn't have time to listen to comments in the halls or talk between classes. It was a hard lesson for her, but worth it because she could then implement necessary adjustments. Some changes were made and others hit the shredder. I hope she does one this spring as well. She had a lot of people (other than me) leave for other studios. There was a mix of reasons - some had to go because they'd gone as far as they could and needed to spread their wings. (Our blessings go with them.) Others went because, quite frankly, they were the kind that would be miserable no matter where. (Oooppps. Did the door hit them in the buttkuss? Awh.) __________________ "Perhaps loving something is the only starting place there is for making your life your own." Alice Koller

Reply with quote | #11 | The studio I used to teach at did a survey that they handed out at recital. It was a great tool and really helped the SO know what was liked and disliked and to know ahead of time what the students wanted for next year. |

Reply with quote | #12 | A survey is fine but it can cause problems too. As I am sure you know there are a lot of parents who think they should run the studio just because they pay tuition. As the SO you need to make it clear to parents that you appreciate and welcome their ideas but it is YOUR studio. |

Reply with quote | #13 | We have never had a survey, no need for one. Almost everyone sends their complaints to the office manager. If they don't, someone else does "for them". lol

Reply with quote | #14 | We have no survey at our studio. Input is not really wanted. As a result, many quit because their concerns are not taken into account. We have quality instruction. Unfortunately, studio keeps shrinking because more people quit each year. __________________ Amomofdancer |
