Reply with quote | #1 | DQ doesn't have one, and I'm thinking it may be her "big" gift for Christmas. It will be nice to have on long competition days. But I know NOTHING about them, and looking at the site is just overwhelming me. Can you help me out?
1. Which DS system should I get her? If I understand correctly, there are 3 kinds: the original, the Lite, and the DSi.
2. Any good game recommendations? She's 7, very girly, and likes light, fluffy (and preferably pink!) things. Nothing scary at all.
3. Any place that sells them for a particularly good price? Or do I just need to watch the sales? What IS a good price?
Thanks! __________________ Mickey

Reply with quote | #2 | My daughter has lite. I think it's the newer version of the original. According to her, the screen is brighter on the ds lite. The games that she liked the most were cooking mama, princess peach, nintendogs, tomagatchi, imagine fashion designer and mario olympics. I got some games online when they went on sale, but for DS itself went to Toys'R'Us when they were sellig it as a part of a bundle (also on sale). |

Reply with quote | #4 | I to was on the fence about getting dd (5) a DS she currently has a Leapster which she still enjoys as long as she isn't playing the same games for too long. It seems most of the 5 and 6 yr olds have one and the parents seem to be fine with it. Honestly I think she would be happy with a few new Leapster games but sometimes keeping up with the Jones' is a little tempting. __________________ dancin on top of the world |

Reply with quote | #5 | If you have a Game Stop near you they sell them used for $80 with a guarantee. My dd11 worked for me all summer to buy one and some games, had them all in a purse and lost them last weekend. We went back to every store and no one could find it... So, if she gets one, be sure to help her keep track of it... |

This is my biggest fear about dropping that much money - she isn't very responsible with her things yet. Ugh. Thanks for the tip about Game Stop!
Showstopper - I'll check out Costco, too. I was JUST there today - wish I'd been thinking about this then. __________________ Mickey

Reply with quote | #7 | Hi
My daughter is 12 now and whe has had hers for 3years. She loves it and takes hers to competitions. She and her friends can play on the same game but different machines. Hers is a DS lite. At 7 I would go for the rebuilt one. I used to worry about DD loosing hers but she keeps up with it quite well.
I got her a refurbished Ipod nano and she doesn't seem to mind her friends have a better model. I hope that continues. |

Reply with quote | #8 | dsi is the latest and greatest! My dd loves nintendogs, mario bros, and all the cooking games...i love Mario, Brain Age and Big Brain Academy---dd likes ths too! They actually learn thngs on this one! It's been well loved at our house--we got the hard clear plastic cover for ours and it has lasted really well! It's worth every penny---not many sales--watch the Thanksgiving ads---and game stop is EXCELLENT for used games! __________________ Love it or leave. Life is too short for anything else.

Reply with quote | #9 | I got a Dsi for my 9 year old for her birthday this year and all the kids love it. I too was hesitant at first because you go along to so many places and see the kids faces always buried in their Ds's and I worried it would make her anti social. But we have some firm rules about when it is and is not acceptable to use it and its going quite well.
I would recommend you get the Dsi, because it is the newest version. They keep updating these things and are selling the old Ds's and Ds lite's because they have so many in stock. But all the new gadgets and things they bring out will be for the Dsi.
My daughter has the imagine gymnast and the imagine ballet dancer games and she loves them. All the imagine games are great. She also like the new mario bros. She has super mario 64 but she finds it quite hard, while my 11 year old loves it.

Reply with quote | #10 | My kids have had both the DS and DSi and they LOVE the DSi far more. As mentioned it has the camera which you can use and then do fun things with your photos. As well the sound storage and edit has been fun too. There is a slot to put in an SD card which can store these as well take the photos to your drugstore and print. There are lots of fun games for young kids. It has been sturdy but I saw in the paper today there is a hard case for it. |

Reply with quote | #11 | Get the DSI. My dd and her friends love to play with them at comp. they can also link up and chat wirelessly. At one comp. my dd and friend were chatting with dancers from other studios on the ds. They had a blast meeting new friend "online". |

Reply with quote | #12 | Kaitlin has the DS Lite, and will be getting a DSi for her birthday. She LOVES using the pictochat to talk with other kids at comps. She has made so many friends that way. A lot of the kids bring them to comps and they all have a blast running around and meeting each other.
Nintendo has pretty much set pricing, but you can look for "bundle packs" that come with games. I know last week Toys R Us had a bundle pack for $188 that had a DSi, an ICarly or Hannah Montana game, a case and extra stylus which was a great deal. Keep checking ads in the Sunday paper for bundle packs. __________________ Sarah

Reply with quote | #13 | I think the DSI is I kinda feel a waste of extra money. My daughter has DS Lite which she loves. Your only getting a few extra features with the DSI which does it make it worth it? My opinion no. It's like photo shop every year they come out with a better version with some more bells and whistles. The previous version costs less and does the same thing as the more expensive one out. My daughter is getting a digital camera instead of a DSI because she will get far more use out of something like that then game one. I would suggest like others maybe a rebuilt one to start out with. Whatever you don't buy a Nerf case it cracks the hinges. (It cracked my daughters and also her friends.) I found this...I read about it on yahoo....
Tokyo - Nintendo is prepping to release a new version of its DSi handheld game system with a larger screen in Japan, Reuters reported, citing the Nikkei business daily. The screen on the new model is expected to be over 4 inches, up from the 3.25-inch screen sported on the current model. Demand is reportedly dwindling for the DSi, which faces increasing competition from game-friendly mobiles like the iPhone. The new DSi could launch yet this year in Japan, and is expected to cost about the same as the current model, according to Nikkei.
I swear I saw the cost was over 200 on the yahoo article which I can't find >_<. __________________ Forgive the ones that hate you and love the ones that love you!

Reply with quote | #14 | I don't think you can even get the original anymore. DD has the DS Lite and LOVES it- I was skeptical because I hate it when kids can't function without something to entertain them. We've been diligent about regulating her time on it, and it's been fabulous. I myself am a bit obsessed with Super Mario Bros __________________ momtodancinggirl |
